13 Hajipir draws inspiration from the historic capture of the Hajipir Pass during the 1965 Indo‑Pakistan War. Following the 1949 ceasefire after the first Kashmir war, tensions over Kashmir persisted. In 1965 Pakistan launched Operation Gibraltar to infiltrate Jammu & Kashmir and later planned Operation Grand Slam to capture Akhnoor. In response, the Indian Army launched swift operations and captured the strategically vital Hajipir Pass (2637 m) in the Pir Panjal range, separating the Srinagar Valley from the Jammu region. The victory remains a classic example of courage, leadership, and decisive military action.
